The multi-pronged artist JR Brennan, on vocals and production, led 90s crust-punk act Flycop (on the label Spiral Objective) and infamous Berlin-based electronic duo Theatre Of Disco (Risky Disco / Future Classic). Sam Dowson, on drums and machines, has been an extreme metal drummer and producer for Mephistopheles, Milquebarth and RVNKNG. Neither are strangers to subversion by day, either, having been a parole officer and a lawyer respectively.
The duo, from Nipaluna/Hobart, followed You Snake with Dark Mofo 2023 shows that NME listed among the festival’s top five. The AXON BREEZE live experience pushes the boundaries of heavy music, with intense bursts of post punk and hyperpop bridged with passages of drawn-out doom. Beneath it sits an inverted gothic: softness where you expect armour, sensuality where you expect force. AXON BREEZE are building something stranger and more disarming.
In 2024, PAN-label producer Aaron Cupples (The Drones, Spiritualised) travelled to Lutruwita/Tasmania to work on their debut album, which was then mixed in Mexico City and is due for release in 2026. With a reputation for a live show both heavy and unexpectedly inviting, the project is poised to bring that momentum back to Australian stages and beyond.
